HOW IT'S DONE

Clearance surfaces on the bed (that were machined in the same setup as the way surfaces when manufactured)are used to guide a temporary carriage. The carriage is fit to the clearance surface with Moglice. A milling head and feed unit is mounted on the carriage and used to cut the surfaces. In this way all scores are machined out and way surfaces are made flat, straight, and parallel with original datum lines. The stock loss off the bed is made up by coating the bottom of the table with Moglice low-friction way liner.

Mattison uses Moglice and replication techniques in the production of their new grinder tables. Clearance surfaces are masked off and the freshly machined bedways are sprayed with release agent. The Moglice is mixed and poured into the bedways. The prepared table is then set in the Moglice coming to rest accurately on preset alignment jacks. 18 hours later the table is removed from the bed with the Moglice securely adhered to its bottom. The surface of the Moglice is a perfect fit or "replication" of the bedways. This eliminates the need to machine the table, facilitating infield application.

This process can be completed in 5 days, dramatically reducing the time and cost required to requalify your grinder bedways. Devitt Machinery has been training rebuilders in these techniques for 21 years.
